The Learning Tree “Lightning” athletic program celebrates its 13th year of providing students opportunities to develop physical and mental skills. It began as a single boys’ basketball team consisting of players from Learning Tree and Coble Adventist Schools. This team participated in a yearly tournament formally known as the Spalding Tournament in Collegedale, Tennessee and a second tournament in the Atlanta area.
Increased interest resulted in Learning Tree and Coble forming individual boys’ basketball teams in their second year. Today the program has expanded to where it offers boys’ and girls’ varsity basketball, co-ed junior varsity basketball, and co-ed varsity soccer. The unique aspect of Learning Tree athletics is that all students interested in participating, beginning in grade 3, become members of their respective teams. The teams are members of the Christian Fellowship Athletic Association. This eight-team league stresses the importance of Christian teamwork and sportsmanship as its number one priority.
